Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Queens (NY) Alumni Chapter

The History of The Queens (NY) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

The Queens (NY) Alumni Chapter (QA) of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, was founded on March 10, 1990 at the Roy Wilkins Center in SE Queens NY.  The goal of the charter members was to present a newly progressive and diverse perspective of organizational principles and objectives in New York City, particularly in the SE section of the borough of Queens.

Inspired by a passion to transform lives and empower the community through Training for Leadership paired with academic and social outreach, over the past 34 years, the chapter has actively served the borough of Queens community through various programs and activities.  Highlights include the annual "Red Carpet Salute to Achiever's" celebration, annual academic scholarships, social action programs, NYS Adopt-a-Highway Program, SE Queens Pack the Fridge program and initiatives against sexual and domestic violence. The chapter has received recognitions and awards for its contributions and efforts from local, regional, and national organizations, including the Borough President of Queens. Moreover,  several members have or are serving in organizational regional or national leadership roles. One of the chapter's core focuses is guiding young, urban males through programs like the "Kappa League" mentoring program, aiming to instill values of pride, determination, respect, responsibility, self-knowledge, academic excellence, maturity, and moral integrity.  The chapter’s current and 15th Polemarch (president) is Brother J. Marcus Poon.
